Verulam House Care Home, in the heart of the cathedral city of St Albans, Hertfordshire, is an oasis of calm in a busy and vibrant city.
The home provides residential, respite, palliative and nursing care in St Albans as well as physical disability and sensory impairment support.
An early 19th century Grade II listed building, Verulam House was previously the Bishop’s Palace, a school, a conference centre and even a maternity hospital during the Second World War. Beautifully converted to a care home nearly 20 years ago, both the house and grounds are steeped in history yet remain modern and accessible.

🌟 Our staff are constantly going above and beyond every single day for our residents.
This week, Lynn stepped in to help the whole team by working in the kitchen at the last minute when our Chef was off sick. She did a fabulous job and even made some lovely treats for our residents 🍰💖.
As a special thank you, our Chef made Lynn a cake to show his appreciation 🎂👏.
Well done, Lynn – and thank you for everything you do to support both the team and our wonderful residents! 💐

✨ This week, some of our residents had so much fun decorating gingerbread men! 🍪🎨 A few couldn’t even wait until they had finished decorating before sneaking a little taste 😂.
Everyone told us how much they enjoyed this activity — especially when it came to eating them afterwards! ❤️

🌸 Our residents have been at it again with some beautiful flower arranging! 🌼✨
This is such a wonderful activity that not only brings joy while creating, but also brightens up our care home once the flowers are placed around. The vibrant colours and fresh blooms truly make the whole place feel alive.
A big thank you to everyone who took part – your creativity brings so much cheer to us all! 💐💖
